Wei Yanze exclaimed in disbelief, “Really? I never noticed that after all these years.”
Shuichang nodded and said, “Of course it’s true. At home, Mom prefers you over me and Zhenfei. Mom is a traditional woman; she knew you had no family support, which is why she wanted you to please me. As long as you win my favor, you won’t have to worry for the rest of your life.”
Wei Yanze was left speechless by this revelation. “This… how could it be?”
Shuichang’s words completely overturned Wei Yanze’s understanding of Mother Zhou.
“If you don’t believe me, observe carefully. Although Mom pretends otherwise, there are still some clues to be found. When Dad didn’t like Shuang’er, it was Mom who insisted on bringing you back from the orphanage. At that time, you were so thin and small, and Mom reminded Lin Sao every day to prepare nutritious food for you. She never cared about what I or my brother ate.”
Although Wei Yanze didn’t have memories from that time, after hearing Shuichang say this, he believed about seventy percent of it; the rest he still needed to verify himself.
In the afternoon, Zhou Chengyun returned home from school and rushed upstairs to see his younger brother. “Grandma, Aunty, Uncle, I’m going to see my little brother!”
Mother Zhou was talking to Li Hua but kept her eyes on Zhou Chengyun, waiting until he safely reached the second floor before subtly looking away.
Li Hua praised, “Chengyun is so well-behaved. Usually, when a new child arrives in the family, the older ones feel jealous, but I didn’t expect Chengyun to love his little brother so much.”
Mother Zhou waved her hand and said, “Oh, don’t mention it. Shuang’er is such a handful. When she is treated a little better, her temper gets worse. Even my eldest grandson’s name,承星, was chosen by her.”
Li Hua exclaimed, “Wow, Chengyun is amazing! He can come up with names at such a young age. I think the name承星 is wonderful.”
Mother Zhou sighed, “What can I do? His father spoils the children; I’ll just be thankful if he doesn’t turn into a little tyrant.”
Ever since Peng Yue and Peng Tian were dismissed from the Zhou family by Zhou Zhenting, they had been waiting at home for an invitation to return. After all, they were the only two relatives of the Zhou family and couldn’t believe Mother Zhou would really cut ties with them.
Surprisingly, Mother Zhou did dare. Keeping relatives close is meant to help each other out in the future. The Zhou family has helped Li Xue so much, yet she showed no gratitude and instead became arrogant, acting like a master in the Zhou household.
Mother Zhou did not invite Li Xue’s family to celebrate Chengxing’s first month.
Without an invitation, Li Xue found it difficult to visit the Zhou family and had to swallow her pride, missing out on opportunities to meet people from high society.
Li Xue’s husband, Peng Guoqiang, complained, “You’ve spoiled both children! With a mouth like yours, why would you offend your second aunt? Now we have no job and have lost a good relative. It’s all a mess; are you happy?”
Li Xue shot back angrily, “Peng Guoqiang, you’ve got some nerve! Do you think I wanted to marry you, a useless man? Without me, you’d never connect with the Zhou family! Yet you blame me for spoiling the kids. If you had half the ability of Zhou Chen, our children wouldn’t have to lower their heads for others!”
Peng Guoqiang dodged Li Xue’s slapping hand, “Are you comparing me to Zhou Chen? Do you wish for my family fortune to be wiped out soon?”
Clearly, none of this family knew how to communicate.
At the Zhou household, Zhou Zhenting was holding Zhou Chengyun while Wei Yanze was holding Zhou Chengxing, both greeting friends from the business world.
Both children inherited Wei Yanze’s exquisite looks, their beautiful tea-colored eyes looking at you together, just melting hearts.
“Zhou, you’re fortunate. Just with these two children, you can outshine most people.”
Zhou Zhenting believed this was true and nodded, saying, “With Chengyun and Chengxing, I and Yanze feel fulfilled. Even my mother is extremely fond of these two kids; she can’t go without checking on them even for a moment.”
Though it sounded a bit boastful, everyone who saw the two children nodded in agreement; if any family had such treasures, they would probably brag even more than Zhou Zhenting.
After sending off the guests in the afternoon, Mother Zhou took Zhou Chengxing into her arms, showering him with affection.
Wei Yanze had been holding Zhou Chengxing all day; his arms were sore and numb when Mother Zhou took the child from him, allowing him to have a break.
Suddenly, Wei Yanze had a thought. Did Mother Zhou take Zhou Chengxing because she saw that he was tired?
With this thought in mind, Wei Yanze couldn’t help but show a happy smile, realizing how wonderful it felt to be cared for by someone.
Before sleeping at night, Wei Yanze couldn’t help but share the little details he had discovered with Shuichang, who proudly said, “See, I didn’t lie to you.”
Wei Yanze replied, “Yes, my husband is the greatest.”
Shuichang suddenly asked, “Yanze, do you still want to go to college?”
When Wei Yanze was only in his first year of university, he was made pregnant by Zhou Zhenting and had to drop out to take care of the baby, missing the chance to experience college life.
Wei Yanze was surprised, asking, “Why the sudden interest in this? I’m already twenty-six, and I have two kids — wouldn’t it be weird to go back to school?”
Shuichang countered, “What’s weird about that? It only shows how little you know yourself to say such a thing.” Shuichang pulled a small mirror from the nightstand and placed it in front of Wei Yanze. “Look at these beautiful eyes, these petal-soft lips, and your flawless skin. You could pass for eighteen.”
Wei Yanze lowered his head bashfully, “You just know how to flatter me.”
What Shuichang said was true; at over thirty, he still looked over thirty, while standing next to Wei Yanze made him seem like an old cow eating tender grass.
Who would have thought that Wei Yanze was already a father of two?
“To be honest, it was my fault you didn’t get to go to university. Don’t you want to experience the wonderful college life? Can you give me a chance to make it up to you?”
Wei Yanze paused, then smiled, “Although I blamed you at first, thinking about how having Chengyun as a baby is partly your doing, I really am no longer angry.”
Shuichang blew warm breath into Wei Yanze’s ear, “How about I give my all again today? Let’s have ten babies.”
Wei Yanze’s body shivered sensitively, “Husband~” The two hadn’t been intimate for over ten months and were feeling somewhat excited now.
Shuichang was so enchanted by Wei Yanze that he was oblivious to everything around him, a motor running endlessly. It was only when Zhou Chengxing started crying in the middle of the night that Shuichang finally stopped.
